ASIMETRÍA CARDIACA: LA QUIRALIDAD CELULAR COMO NUEVO ENFOQUE

En esta revisión bibliográfica se detallan los principales mecanismos y vías que intervienen en el establecimiento de la asimetría izquierda-derecha. Se han señalado aspectos asimétricos que aparecen durante el desarrollo embrionario a lo largo de la evolución, haciendo hincapié en varios ejemplos de invertebrados y vertebrados, pero sobre todo se ha enfocado en ratón. Además, se han comentado los principales acontecimientos que tienen lugar durante la organogénesis, y aspectos moleculares y vías de señalización que intervienen en el establecimiento del eje izquierdaderecha en el corazón. Junto con el corazón, también se han revisado las características asimétricas de otros órganos, de los cuales se tiene mayor información. Por último, se han analizado algunos de los estudios que relacionan la quiralidad celular como un factor causante de la asimetría izquierda-derecha en corazón, mostrando datos preliminares obtenidos por el grupo de Investigación Cardiovascular de la Universidad de Jaén en relación con este tema.

This bibliographical review details the main mechanisms and pathways involved in the establishment of left-right asymmetry. Asymmetrical aspects that appear during embryonic development throughout the evolution have been identified, emphasizing several examples of invertebrates and vertebrates, but above all it has focused on mouse. In addition, the main events that take place during organogenesis, and molecular aspects and signaling pathways involved in establishing the left-right axis in the heart have been discussed. Together with the heart, the asymmetrical characteristics of other organs, of which more information is available, such as the such as the liver, lung or gut. Finally, this paper has looked at some of the studies that link cell chirality as a factor causing left-right asymmetry in the heart, also showing preliminary data obtained by the Cardiovascular Research group of the University of Jaén on this issue.
