ESPECIES DE PLANTAS EXOTICAS Y SU POTENCIAL IMPACTO EN EL AREA PROTEGIDA "ISLA SANTAY"

Actualmente, las especies invasoras constituyen la segunda causa de pérdida de biodiversidad en el planeta. Es por esta razón, que el presente estudio se propuso por objetivo identificar cuáles son las especies exóticas con potencial invasor en isla Santay, conocer cuáles de las especies encontradas son las más abundantes, e indagar el impacto que puedan generar. Para la obtención de esta información fue necesario realizar una investigación de dos fases, primero, la fase analítica, en la que se levantó un inventario florístico, se tomó datos de campo contemplando toda la información necesaria sobre la flora de la zona. Segundo, la fase sintética, en la que se realizó una tabulación de los inventarios levantados en campo para estimar la abundancia y la distribución de las especies exóticas invasoras. El presente estudio mostró que existen en Isla Santay especies de plantas exóticas que son potencialmente invasoras. Esto es preocupante ya que han escogido un lugar de gran importancia ecológica para la región, el humedal isla Santay, ubicado en la región costera de Ecuador.

Invasive species are the second major cause of biodiversity loss on the planet. For this reason, the present study aims to identify exotic species present in Santay Island, to know which of them are the most abundant, and infer the impact that they can generate to local biodiversity. In order to obtain this information, it was necessary to separate this research into two phases, first, the analytical phase, in which a floristic inventory was taken, including field data and all necessary information about the flora of the area where it was collected. Then, a second phase, the synthetic phase, I made a tabulation of the inventories collected in the field to estimate the abundance and distribution of invasive alien species. The present study showed that there are exotic species of plants in Santay Island that have the potential to become invasive. This is worrying as they have chosen a place of great ecological importance for the region, the wetland Santay Island, located in the coastal region of Ecuador.
