Poetry in Nicaraguan English Creole | Poesía en inglés criollo nicaragüense

English. In the present study of poetry in Nicaraguan Creole English, in addition to Creole poetry, poetry by Nicaraguan Creoles in Standard English is also included. The differences between the two forms, and the importance of preference, are also considered. As in the case of Spanish in Nicaragua, English-language poetry produced on the Atlantic Coast is divided into two general forms, one academic in style, written in Standard English, and the other, a more populist poetry that has used Creole English. Although the continuum of Creole might suggest a tendency to move towards the standard mother tongue, this is a process that is in the hands or, rather, in the mouths of the speakers. Thus, the process of recriollization is also an aspect of the evolution of Creole languages, an aspect that considers the reestablishment of linguistic distinctions in response to possible linguistic “absorption” by the standard form. Recriollization becomes an expression of linguistic and cultural assertion.

Spanish; Castilian. En el presente estudio sobre poesía en inglés criollo nicaragüense, además de la poesía creole, se incluye también poesía de criollos nicaragüenses en inglés estándar. Se consideran también las diferencias entre las dos formas, y la importancia de la preferencia. Como en el caso del español en Nicaragua, la poesía en inglés producida en la Costa Atlántica está dividida en dos formas generales, una de estilo académico, escrita en inglés estándar, y la otra, una poesía más populista que ha utilizado el inglés criollo. Aunque el continum del criollo podría sugerir una tendencia de acercamiento hacia la lengua madre estándar, este es un proceso que se encuentra en las manos o, más bien, en las bocas de los hablantes. Es así como el proceso de recriollización es también un aspecto de la evolución de las lenguas criollas, un aspecto que considera el restablecimiento de distinciones lingüísticas en respuesta a la posible «absorción» lingüística por parte de la forma estándar. La recriollización se convierte en una expresión de afirmación lingüística y cultural.
