Uso del Echinopsis Pachanoi como ayudante de coagulación en el tratamiento de agua para consumo humano

El presente estudio muestra los resultados del uso del polímero natural obtenido de la cactácea Echinopsis Pachanoi como ayudante de coagulación, la investigación tuvo como objetivo comprobar la eficiencia en la remoción de turbiedad en las muestras de agua natural. Se realizaron pruebas de jarras para determinar los parámetros óptimos de dosificación, floculación y sedimentación; en una primera etapa empleando el Sulfato de Aluminio Solo como coagulante primario y luego una segunda etapa utilizando el Sulfato de Aluminio más el Echinopsis Pachanoi como ayudante de coagulación. Para el empleo y obtención del polímero natural se convirtieron los cardos de Echinopsis Pachanoi en polvo para su pesado y dosificación; mediante la limpieza, corte, secado y triturado del cardo. Las muestras de agua para la investigación fueron tomadas del Río Chillón y se clasificaron en tres, según la turbiedad: Muestra del Tipo I de 303 UNT, Muestra del Tipo II de 104 UNT y la Muestra del Tipo III de 30 UNT. Los resultados obtenidos demuestran que el empleo del polímero natural de Echinopsis Pachanoi como ayudante de coagulación influye en la reducción de la dosis optima del Sulfato de Aluminio, entre un rango del 14% al 23%, mostrando la mayor reducción en las muestras de 30 UNT (de 26 mg/l a 20 mg/l) y la menor en la muestra de 303 UNT (de 42 mg/l a 36 mg/l). Los resultados muestran un incremento en la tasas de decantación empleando el ayudante de coagulación Echinopsis Pachanoi en comparación al empleo del Sulfato de Aluminio Solo: la Muestra Tipo I tiene un incremento del 21% (de 42 a 51 m3/m2/día), la Muestra Tipo II presenta 14% de incremento (de 36 a 41 m3/m2/día) y la Muestra Tipo III un 29% (de 38 a 49 m3/m2/día). Se observa una reducción del Volumen del lodo entre un rango del 29 % al 33% en las muestras de agua empleando el polímero natural, la mayor reducción se presentó en la Muestra Tipo III (de 12.0 ml a 8.0 ml), además el lodo obtenido es compacto y menos acuoso comparado al lodo producido por el Sulfato de Aluminio. Se determinó que el costo del tratamiento por metro cubico (m3) empleando el polímero natural de Echinopsis Pachanoi en conjunto con el Sulfato de Aluminio (costo de Muestra Tipo I es de S/. 0.253, de la Muestra Tipo II es de S/.0.195 y de la Muestra Tipo III es de S/.0.156) no es rentable frente al costo empleando solo el Sulfato de Aluminio (costo de Muestra Tipo I es de S/. 0.134, de la Muestra Tipo II es de S/.0.096 y de la Muestra Tipo III es de S/.0.083), esto debido al bajo costo del coagulante sintético.

The present investigation shows the results of the use of the natural polymer obtained from the cactus Echinopsis Pachanoi as an assistant of coagulation, the investigation had as objective to check the efficiency in the removal of turbidity in natural water samples. Jar tests were performed to determine the optimum parameters of dosage, flocculation and sedimentation; in a first stage using Aluminum Sulfate only as primary coagulating and then a second stage using Aluminum Sulfate More the Echinopsis Pachanoi as an assistant of coagulation. The results obtained show that the use of the natural polymer of Echinopsis Pachanoi as an assistant of coagulation influences the reduction of the optimal dose of aluminum sulfate, between a range of 14% to 23%, showing the greatest reduction in 30 samples of UNT (26 mg/l to 20 mg/l) and the lowest in the sample of 303 NTU (of 42 mg/l to 36 mg/l). The results show an increase in the rates of decanting using the assistant of coagulation Echinopsis Pachanoi compared to the use of Aluminum Sulfate Only: The Sample Type I have an increase of 21% (from 42 to 51 m3/m2/day), the Sample Type II presents 14% increase (from 36 to 41 m3/m2/day) and the Sample Type III a 29% (from 38 to 49 m3/m2/day). There is a reduction in the volume of sludge from a range of 29% to 33% in water samples using the natural polymer, the greatest reduction was presented in the Sample Type III (12.0 ml to 8.0 ml), as well as the sludge obtained is compact and less watery compared to the sludge produced by the Aluminum Sulfate. It was determined that the cost of treatment per cubic meter (m3) using the natural polymer of Echinopsis Pachanoi in conjunction with the Aluminum Sulfate (cost of Sample Type I is S/. 0,253, of the Sample Type II is S/.0,195 and the Sample Type III is S/.0,156) is not profitable versus cost using only the Aluminum Sulfate (cost of Sample Type I is S/. 0,134, of the Sample Type II is S/.0,096 and the Sample Type III is S/.0,083), this is due to the low cost of synthetic coagulant.
