Aplicación de un biofiltro mediante almejas de agua dulce para la reducción de coliformes termotolerantes en el canal de regadío de Las Salinas – Chancay

Las aguas de los canales de regadío del distrito de Chancay vienen siendo contaminadas por la baja cobertura de saneamiento; como consecuencia del vertimiento de aguas residuales industriales sin tratar provenientes de lavado de javas de pollos, vertimiento de aguas domésticas y municipales; ello genera problemas de calidad asociados a la contaminación microbiológica y orgánica de sus aguas. Estas aguas que se vierten, poseen mayor concentración de coliformes termotolerantes que exceden los estándares establecido para la calidad de agua de riego. Por ello, para su tratamiento, las almejas cuentan con una capacidad de filtrar litros de agua por hora; por medio de su alimentación, disminuyen los coliformes termotolerantes mediante la digestión, aportándoles energía y consiguiendo los nutrientes de partículas en suspensión. En ese sentido, el objetivo de este proyecto fue evaluar el porcentaje de reducción de coliformes termotolerantes mediante la aplicación de un biofiltro con almejas de agua dulce. El tratamiento consistió en la aplicación de 180 almejas de la especie “Anodontites Trapecialis” de un criadero piscícola de tilapias en la localidad de Shucshuyacu, los cuales fueron distribuidos de 15 a 30 para los diferentes tratamientos; estos fueron depositados en un prototipo de filtración durante un periodo de 6 a 12 horas, con un caudal de 100 a 150 l/s. Para la determinación de la concentración de coliformes termotolerantes se aplicó el método de filtración por membrana. Es así que, usando 30 almejas de agua dulce en un periodo de 12 horas demostraron una mayor efectividad de reducción en la concentración de los coliformes termotolerantes, logrando una reducción de 1203.33 NMP/100 ml a diferencia de los otros tratamientos aplicados.

The waters of the irrigation canals of the Chancay district are being polluted due to the low sanitation coverage; as a result of the discharge of untreated industrial wastewater from washing chicken cage, domestic and municipal water discharge; this generates quality problems associated with microbiological and organic contamination of its waters. These discharged waters have a higher concentration of thermotolerant coliforms that exceed the standards established for irrigation water quality. For this reason, clams have the capacity to filter liters of water per hour; through their diet, they reduce thermotolerant coliforms through digestion, providing them with energy and obtaining nutrients from suspended particles. The objective of this project was to evaluate the percentage reduction of thermotolerant coliforms through the application of a biofilter with freshwater clams. For the installation of the biofilter, the custom-made steel mesh of the metal gate was placed, which will be located in the slit of the same channel. Then, the reducer of noble material was added, adhered to the metal slit, making the connection with the PVC pipe using special glue. Then, the clam filter was placed inside the irrigation channel by gluing the PVC pipes with outlet to the same channel after placing a ball valve. The treatment consisted of the application of 180 clams of the "Anodontites Trapecialis" species from a tilapia fish farm in the locality of Shucshuyacu, which were distributed from 15 to 30 for the different treatments; these were deposited in a prototype filter for a period of 6 to 12 hours, with a controlled flow of 100 to 150 l/s with a ball valve. The membrane filtration method was used to determine the concentration of thermotolerant coliforms. Thus, using 30 freshwater clams in a period of 12 hours showed a greater effectiveness in reducing the concentration of thermotolerant coliforms, achieving a reduction of 1203.33 NMP/100 ml as opposed to the other treatments applied. Therefore, for future water treatment works for the reduction of microorganisms, the possibility of pretreatment should be evaluated in order to retain the greater amount of contaminating particles concentrated in the water to be treated and to prevent the clams from becoming saturated in their process of reduction of thermotolerant coliforms.
