Effects of cypermethrin pesticide on some morphological indices and gill and liver tissues of starry fish (Acipenser stellatus Pallas, 1771) embryo

In the present study, the effects of cypermethrin toxin on morphological structures and gill and liver tissues was studied in Acipenser stellatus. 270 embryos of Acipenser stellatus (one day post hatching) was used in 3 treatments and 3 replicates (control, 0.5 and 0.9 µg/l) at a semi-static condition for 20 days. At the end of the study period, the mean of the mortality of the embryos in treatments 1 to 3 were 17.3±0.57, 19±0.1 and 23±0.1, respectively. Simultaneously, the whole fish was was studied for morphological changes by using stereomicroscope. Gill Pathological changes were hyperplasia and acute cellular swelling. In the liver, gradual necrosis of nucleus and a clear vacuolated appearance were observed especially in the higher concentrations of the cypermethrin. The embryos mortality was significantly increased in 0.9 µg/l treatment compared to control (p˂ 0.05). No obvious morphological changes were observed. There no differences in the total length, head size and diameter of eye iris among groups (p˃ 0.05). Finally, the widespread use of these poisons can cause of environmental pollution, mortality at the water organisms and extinction of valuable species e.g., sturgeon fish.
