Se estudió la dieta de 216 ejemplares de Brama australis ("reineta"), provenientes de la pesca artesanal del Golfo de Arauco, Chile, durante otoño 2000 y verano 2001. El contenido gástrico de B. australis se analizó cuali y cuantitativamente en relación con la talla, sexo y períodos de muestreos. Se determinó que la reineta posee un reducido espectro trófico en el área de estudio, pues se alimenta casi exclusivamente de crustáceos (eufáusidos), mientras que peces y calamares constituyen presas secundarias u ocasionales. El alto consumo de Euphausia sp. se debería principalmente a que B. australis seleccionaría presas de pequeño tamaño, cuya preferencia alimentaria se encontraría asociada con la época de estudio y la oferta ambiental<br>The diet of 216 specimens of Brama australis ("reineta") collected from the artisanal fishing in the Arauco Gulf, Chile, was studied during autumn 2000 and summer 2001. The gastric content of B. australis was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively by size, sex and season. The pomfret showed a narrow trophic spectrum in the study area, preferently of crustaceans (Euphausiids), while fish and squids were secondary or occasional preys. The high demand of Euphausia sp. would be due mainly to the fact that B. australis would select small size preys whose alimentary preference would be associated to the study period and the environmental offer
