Evaluación del rendimiento y otros atributos agronómicos en el germoplasma comercial de girasol argentino (1986-2006)

ResumenEl mejoramiento genético de girasol en la Argentina resultó en un progreso genético constante para rendimiento en todas las regiones de cultivo de esta especie. En este trabajo, se aplicaron análisis de modelos lineales mixtos y multivariados a una serie histórica de 17 años de ensayos de la red de ensayos territoriales (RET) conducidos en la EEA Pergamino, con el objetivo de contribuir al conocimiento de la variabilidad para caracteres fenotípicos de híbridos de girasol obtenidos entre 1986 y 2006. El análisis de clasificación sobre la matriz híbridos × atributos fenotípicos permitió agrupar los 64 híbridos evaluados por al menos 3 años en 5 grupos que difieren en los años promedio de registro comercial de los híbridos que los componen. El análisis de componentes mostró asociación positiva entre el rendimiento de aceite y sus determinantes rendimiento de grano y concentración de aceite, ausencia de asociación entre ambos determinantes y asociación positiva entre ciclo a floración y altura, estando ambos caracteres negativamente asociados a la concentración de aceite, positivamente asociados al rendimiento de grano y no asociados al rendimiento de aceite. Dos grupos de híbridos de diferente origen genético convergieron a lo largo de años de mejoramiento en un nuevo tipo, de alto rendimiento de grano y aceite, y ciclo y altura intermedios. Los híbridos modernos ya no presentan la variabilidad de tipo agronómico que presentaban los más antiguos.AbstractSunflower breeding in Argentina resulted in a constant genetic progress for yield in all growing regions of this species. In this study, we applied linear mixed models and multivariate analyses to an historical series of 17 years of trials belonging to the territorial trial net (RET), conducted at the Pergamino Research Station of INTA. The aim was to contribute to the knowledge of the variability observed for phenotypical traits in sunflower hybrids released during the period 1986-2006. Cluster analysis applied to the hybrid × attribute matrix allowed grouping the 64 hybrids tested for at least 3 years into 5 groups differing in the average year of release of the component hybrids. Principal component analysis showed positive association between oil yield and its immediate determinants grain yield and oil concentration, lack of association between both determinants and positive association between time to flowering and height; both traits being negatively associated with oil concentration, positively associated with grain yield and showing lack of association with oil yield. Two groups of hybrids of different genetic origin converged through years of plant breeding into a new type of high grain and oil yield and intermediate maturity and height. Modern hybrids do not longer show the variability for agronomic traits that the old hybrids used to present.
