Maggots Production as Proteins Source for Young Poultry in Togo - Preliminary Observations. Experiments on maggots production was conducted in Togo during December 1998. The substrate used was the rumen content in the open air ten hours before covered with mosquito-net. In the day-2 we observed small maggots but in the day-3 we had big maggots which can be manipulated. The pupae appear in the day 4 and 5 when flies begin growing up in de day-9. A total of 1200 maggots was obtained with a substrate weighing 6.5 kg. A sample of 220 maggots permit us to have 0.05 g as mean weight of one maggot. Those tests will show us the veritable effect of maggots use as feed in poultry production.
