Recently, eco-friendly, and cost-effective energy conversion and storage is a major challenge for the world. In this regard, initiatives have been set up to create various sustainable resources-based energy storage devices like supercapacitors (SCs). They provide fast output power and cover high energy demand for future electronics. In these devices, the electrode material is accountable for playing a vibrant role in storing charge, and the capacitive performance of the device. Several different electrode materials have been used for extremely effective electrochemical SCs. But recently, green and sustainable resources like nanocellulose (NC)-based materials are getting attention, as they possess a unique structure with excellent properties. The low cost and easy availability with eco-friendly nature make these materials a potential alternative for the advancement of sustainable futuristic material. This review is focused on using nanocellulose in different components of various types of supercapacitors, new research outcomes, and research gaps. This comprehensive analysis discusses the latest research findings and worldwide market valuation of nanocellulose-based materials, with their application in supercapacitors. This further examines mathematical methodologies for predicting the behavior of electrical properties. Ultimately, this work investigates the key factors influencing the performance of nanocellulose-based materials in SCs relative to alternative materials.
