The paper is a tribute to Prof. Aurel Russu at his centennial celebration. He had taught Topography as professor with the Faculty of Silviculture and Forest Engineering - Transylvania University of Brasov. His personality is best described by the system of values he has been promoting ever since: professionalism, but not in a narrow sense, humanism, but without useless chatting, and culture, without showing it off. Professor’s well-tempered character and his natural sense of balance must be a pattern for molding anew generations even though the Romanians in general and Romanian foresters in special lack adequate professional symbols. But the real point might be elsewhere: in our weakness and inability to defend the professional and human values like harness, stamina, elegance, discretion, and the last but not the least, the old-fashioned politeness
