Development and challenges of farmers specialized cooperatives in Chinese inland areas: The case of Shaanxi Province

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the projects on developing farmers' professional cooperatives in China's mainland areas. As for the specific content, based on the results of the survey conducted at three farmers' professional cooperatives which set up in the fruit producing area of Shanxi Province, the paper makes an analysis of its function and impact. The results of the investigation illustrate the following three characteristics of the farmers' professional cooperatives in China's mainland areas. First, the main body of operation is more inclined to the relevant personnel associated with the production of raw materials, so fertilizer can be offered to the farmer members at a low price, which reduces costs of production. Second, cooperatives actively give cultivation technology guidance to farmer members and provide relevant technical information. The professional persons who serve as the guidance of the cultivation technology are not limited to the staff of the enterprise. The close cooperation between the experimental research institutions of the local government and universities has also sent plenty of talents to give guidance of the cultivation technology, which has played a positive role in introducing advanced technology. Third, in addition to selling products to local vendors, cooperatives also sell products through the Internet and have explored new routes for sale. This reflects the necessity of expanding sales from Intraregional circulation in the past to out-of- area circulation. Related to this, with the main fruit specialty etc as the center, the examples that the cooperative can create the famous brands have been more and more confirmed.
