Estoques e labilidade da matéria orgânica e acidificação de um argissolo sob plantio direto afetados por sistemas de cultura e adubação nitrogenada | Organic matter stocks and lability and acidification of a no-tilled brazilian soil as affected by cropping systems and nitrogen fertilization

A presente pesquisa foi realizada em experimento de longa duração (19 anos) conduzido em Argissolo Vermelho (220 g kg-1 argila) sob plantio direto (PD), e teve como principais objetivos (i) estimar os parâmetros da dinâmica da MO e verificar o papel de sistemas de cultura e da adubação nitrogenada no acúmulo de C orgânico no solo; (ii) avaliar o fracionamento físico densimétrico e granulométrico como alternativos à oxidação química com KMnO4 na determinação da labilidade da MO do solo; (iii) avaliar a qualidade dos sistemas de manejo a partir do Índice de Manejo de C (IMC), o qual integra índices de estoque e de labilidade da MO; e (iv) acessar o papel dos sistemas de culturas e adubação nitrogenada na acidificação do solo e a participação dos ciclos do C e do N nesse processo. O experimento engloba 10 sistemas de culturas em plantio direto, e para essa pesquisa foram selecionados tratamentos com uma ampla variação no aporte de C ao solo [pousio/ milho (M), aveia/M, aveia+ervilhaca /M, lablab+M, guandu+ M, aveia+ervilhaca/ M+caupi e pangola], sendo que os quatro primeiros foram amostrados nos tratamentos sem e com aplicação de N mineral no milho (0 e 180 kg N-uréia ha-1) e nos três últimos apenas sem N mineral. O solo foi amostrado em seis subcamadas até a profundidade de 0,3 m, tendo sido amostrada também uma área de campo nativo como referência da condição natural do solo. A adição anual de C pelas culturas variou de 2,61 a 7,84 Mg C ha-1 e teve efeito positivo nos estoques de C orgânico e na labilidade da MO do solo em PD. Considerando as condições de clima quente e úmido, a taxa de decomposição da MO no solo foi relativamente baixa (k2 = 1,4%), o que pode ser decorrente em parte da proteção física da MO no solo. Aproximadamente 12% do C adicionado foi incorporado na MO do solo, sendo estimada a necessidade de adição de 3,70 Mg C ha-1 ano-1 para contrabalançar as perdas de C do solo. Os métodos de fracionamento físico da MO e por oxidação química (KMnO4 60 mmol L-1) mostraram-se adequados à avaliação da labilidade da MO, enquanto a solução de KMnO4 333 mmol L-1 superestimou o C lábil deste solo. Com base no IMC, verificou-se que a qualidade do sistema de manejo foi diretamente relacionada ao aporte de resíduos vegetais, com destaque nesse sentido para o papel das leguminosas e da adubação nitrogenada. A acidificação do solo foi mais intensa nos sistemas com leguminosas e/ou com adubação nitrogenada, e isto foi decorrente da maior extração de material vegetal alcalino pela colheita de grãos de milho, e não devido à lixiviação de nitrato.

The research was performed in a long term experiment (19 years) in a Paleudult soil (220 g kg-1 clay) under no tillage and aimed (i) to estimate parameters of OM dynamic and to verify the role of cropping systems and nitrogen fertilization in accumulating organic C in the soil; (ii) to evaluate the density and particle size fractionation as alternative to the chemical oxidation with KMnO4 in determining soil OM lability; (iii) to evaluate the quality of management systems using the C Management Index (CMI), which integrates C pool index and Lability index of OM; and (iv) to access the role of cropping systems and N fertilization in the soil acidification, as well as the contribution of C and N cycles in this process. The experiment is composed by 10 no-till cropping systems and, among them, the fallow/maize (M), oat/M, oat+vetch/M, lablab/M, pigeonpea+M, oat+vetch/cowpea+M and digitaria systems were selected in order to obtain a wide range of annual C input to the soil, being the first four systems sampled where the soil receives 0 and 180 kg N-urea ha-1 yr-1, while the others were sampled only in the absence of N fertilization. The soil was sampled in six layers from 0-30 cm depth and an adjacent area with native grassland was sampled as reference of natural soil condition. The annual C input by crop systems ranged from 2.61 to 7.84 Mg C ha-1 and had positive effect on organic C stocks and OM lability in this no-tilled soil. Taking the warm and humid weather into account, the OM decomposition rate in the soil was relatively low (k2 = 1.4%), which might be due to the OM physical protection in the soil. About 12% of the added C has incorporated as soil OM, and a requirement of 3.70 Mg C ha-1 yr-1 was estimated in order to counterbalance the soil C loss. The OM physical fractionation methods and the chemical oxidation (60 mmol L-1 KMnO4) seemed to be suitable to the OM lability evaluation, while the 333 mmol L-1 KMnO4 overestimated the labile C at this soil. Based on the CMI, it was found that the quality of management systems was directly related to the input of phytomass by the plants, which was higher when leguminous species and N fertilization were present. The soil acidification was more intense where leguminous-based crop systems and/or N fertilization were present and it was due to the higher exportation of alkaline plant material through the corn grain harvest, and not due to nitrate leaching.
