Distribuição da radiação solar na cultura do milho em função de manejo do solo, arranjo de plantas e condição hídrica | Distribuition of solar radiation in maize crops as function of soil tillage, plants distribution and water conditions

Fatores como a condição hídrica da planta alterada por sistemas de manejo do solo e a radiação solar podem interferir diretamente nos processos fisiológicos das plantas, afetando o acúmulo de matéria seca e o rendimento final da cultura. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram avaliar mudanças na arquitetura foliar do milho, na eficiência de interceptação da radiação fotossinteticamente ativa (RFA) e na eficiência de uso da RFA pela cultura do milho, em diferentes sistemas de manejo do solo, arranjos de plantas e níveis de irrigação. Um experimento foi conduzido em Eldorado do Sul, RS, em 2004/05, utilizando-se o híbrido Pioneer 32R21. Conduziu-se em sistemas de plantio direto (PD) e preparo convencional (PC), combinados com dois níveis de irrigação (irrigado e não irrigado) e dois arranjos de plantas (0,4 e 0,8 m entre linhas de semeadura). Um conjunto de três sensores media RFA transmitida (RFAt) pela cultura em cada tratamento, enquanto que um sensor instalado acima da cultura media RFA incidente (RFAinc). Mediu-se também o ângulo de inserção e a curvatura da parte mediana das folhas. O sistema plantio direto proporcionou maior eficiência de interceptação de RFA (εint) em relação ao preparo convencional. A redução da distância entre linhas também aumentou εint. Entretanto, não se verificou alteração na arquitetura foliar do milho entre os sistemas de manejo do solo, mesmo em espaçamentos reduzidos. O déficit hídrico provocou diminuição de εint, devido à redução do índice de área foliar e ao enrolamento das folhas. Este efeito foi maior em preparo convencional, causando valores mais baixos de εint. Aumento de εint em espaçamento reduzido não resultou em maior eficiência de uso de RFA. Não se observou diferenças no rendimento de grãos do milho em função de preparo do solo, mesmo no espaçamento de 0,4 m, que teve alteração de εint.

Factors such as plant water status modified by the soil management systems and solar radiation may interfere directly in physiological processes of plants, so affecting the accumulation of dry matter and the final crop yield. The objectives of this work were to evaluate alterations in the foliar architecture of maize, the efficiency of interception of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR), and the efficiency of PAR use by maize crops in different tillage systems, plant distributions and levels of irrigation. A field experiment was carried out in Eldorado do Sul, Brazil, in 2004/05, using the hybrid Pioneer 32R21. It was cropped in notillage system (NT) and conventional tillage (CT), combined to levels of irrigation (irrigated and non-irrigated), and to plant arrangements (0.4 and 0.8 m among sowing rows). A set of three sensors measured the transmitted PAR (PARt) by the canopy in each treatment, whereas another sensor installed above the canopy measured the incoming PAR (PARinc). The angle of leaf insertion and the curvature of the middle part of leaves were also measured. The no-tillage systems promoted a higher efficiency of interception of PAR (εint) than the conventional tillage. Reduction in the row spacing increased the εint. Nevertheless, no changes were observed in the foliar architecture of maize as function of soil management systems, even in the narrowest row spacing. The water deficit reduced εint since it decreased the leaf area index and caused rolling up of leaf. This effect was pronounced in the conventional tillage, leading to the lowest εint. The highest εint in the largest row spacing had no relationship to increasing efficiency of PAR use. There had no differences in grain yield of maize as function of tillage systems, even in the narrowest row spacing, in spite of alterations in εint.
