Alternativas para a redução de sintomas de mancha preta dos citros em tangerinas para consumo in natura | Alternatives for reduction of citrus black spot symptoms on tangerines destined for in natura consumption

A citricultura está entre as principais atividades agrícolas do Brasil e do Rio Grande do Sul. Porém, diversos problemas fitossanitários acometem os cultivos sendo que a mancha ou pinta preta dos citros (Phyllosticta citricarpa) é uma das doenças fúngicas que tem causado preocupação e tem sido responsável pelo aumento do custo de produção. O fungo pode infectar os frutos ainda na fase inicial de desenvolvimento e os sintomas aparecem durante a maturação quando a casca muda de cor ou ainda podem manifestar-se em pós-colheita, geralmente na face exposta ao sol e ficam restritos ao flavedo comprometendo a aparência dos frutos e a sua comercialização para o mercado in natura. Assim, os objetivos desse trabalho foram caracterizar o início e progresso da doença nas tangerinas no RS e estudar a aplicação de películas fotoprotetoras e o uso de revestimentos comestíveis como formas alternativas para reduzir os sintomas de mancha preta dos citros em pós-colheita de tangerinas. Realizou-se um estudo nas condições da Depressão Central do Rio Grande do Sul, através da exposição de tangerinas em diferentes períodos durante dois ciclos para determinar períodos favoráveis à infecção. Películas fotoprotetoras à base de emulsão de cera de carnaúba ou com a adição de óxido de zinco (ZnO) e dióxido de titânio (TiO2) foram avaliadas em três experimentos. Em pós-colheita, foram testados revestimentos comestíveis à base de quitosana ou emulsão de carnaúba e, também, com a adição de sais com ação antimicrobiana: bicarbonato de sódio e metassilicato de sódio, em tangerinas ‘Caí’, ‘Rainha’ e ‘Montenegrina’. Do estudo observacional conclui-se que não houve correlação entre a incidência da doença e a precipitação e temperatura e os frutos foram suscetíveis à infecção durante todo o seu desenvolvimento. Constatou-se que a aplicação de películas fotoprotetoras à base cera de carnaúba a 20% em tangerinas pode reduzir a incidência de mancha preta dos citros nas cvs. Montenegrina e Rainha, mas a adição de TiO2 pode causar danos à casca de frutos e redução da atividade fotossintética. Assim, será necessário aprimorar as formulações e uso desses produtos para viabilizar essa técnica em diferentes cultivares. O uso de revestimentos comestíveis inibiu o aparecimento de lesões em pós-colheita de tangerinas ‘Caí’, porém não teve o mesmo efeito em ‘Rainha’ e ‘Montenegrina’. Indicando que é importante integrar essa prática a outras medidas de controle.

The citrus industry is an eminent agribusiness in Brazil and in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Yet, several phytosanitary problems affect the groves and citrus black spot (Phyllosticta citricarpa) is a disease that causes concern and is responsible for raising production costs. The fungus is capable to infect the fruit in the early stages of development, though symptoms may appear during ripening when peel color starts to change or only after harvest along handling procedures. The lesions befall the fruit peel, most commonly, at the sun-exposed side but are restricted to the flavedo compromising fruit appearance and, thus, rendering the fruit unattractive for fresh consumption markets. Therefore, the objectives of the present work were to characterize the starting point and the evolution of infection and to evaluate the application of photoprotective films and the use of edible coatings as alternatives to reduce the after harvest incidence of citrus black spot symptoms on tangerines. Under the conditions of the Depressão Central in the state of Rio Grande do Sul were conducted field studies along two harvesting seasons to settle on most likely disease infection periods. Field applications of photoprotective films based on carnauba wax emulsions complemented with zinc oxide (ZnO) or titanium dioxide (TiO2) were evaluated in three experiments. In the postharvest trials, the application of edible coatings based on chitosan or carnauba wax emulsion complemented with antimicrobial salts such as sodium bicarbonate or sodium metassilicate were evaluated on fruits of the cultivars Caí, Rainha and Montenegrina. From the observational study, it was possible to conclude that the prevailing period of P. citricarpa infection is during physiological small fruit drop, but there was no correlation with the temperature and precipitation. The application of photoprotective films may reduce the incidence of citrus black spot symptoms, however, when titanium dioxide is added to the spray solution a reduction in photosynthetic activity of the plants was determined and fruit evidenced peel damages. Therefore, it is imperative to improve the formulations and its use headed to the usefulness of the application to different cultivars. The postharvest application of edible coatings inhibited the appearance of citrus black spot symptoms on cv. Caí fruit, but did not have the same effect on ´Rainha´ and ´Montenegrina´ fruit indicating that is important to integrate that technique with other control practices.
