Tolerância ao alumínio em genótipos de milho (Zea mays L.)

O alumínio (Al³⁺) é um metal abundante na crosta terrestre ocorrendo principalmente em solos ácidos, tornando-se um problema para o desenvolvimento das culturas. O presente trabalho teve como objetivos identificar uma metodologia eficiente para a discriminação da tolerância ao Al³⁺ em milho; verificar a existência da variabilidade genética para o caráter tolerância à toxicidade do Al³⁺ usando gerações segregantes do cruzamento entre linhagens sensíveis (S) e tolerantes (T). As concentrações de Al³⁺ testadas em solução de tratamento foram 0,2 e 6 mgL-¹ e as de cálcio (Ca²⁺) foram 20 e 40 mgL-¹. As variávies utilizadas para discriminar a tolerância do Al³⁺ foram PL (comprimento inicial da raiz principal), SL (comprimento final da raiz principal), diferença (DIF) entre SL e PL, diferença relativa (DIFR) e peso (PESO) das plântulas após o tratamento. Os resultados obtidos indicam que a melhor combinação para as concentrações de Al³⁺ e Ca²⁺ foi de 6 e 40 mgL-¹, respectivamente. A variável DIF demonstrou ser a melhor para discriminar genótipos tolerantes ao Al³⁺. Foi detectada variabilidade genética nas populações avaliadas, sendo que a Sintético Elite apresenta maior tolerância do que a Tuxpeño. Por outro lado, só foi encontrada variabilidade genética no cruzamento T1xS3 (SR1502 (T)/SH6707 (S)). Os resultados observados no cruzamento T1xT2 (SR1502(T)/CP2523 (T)) indicaram a presença do mesmo gene entre as linhagens. Foi também sugerido o envolvimento de poucos genes com grande efeito e herança do tipo dominância para a sensibilidade do Al³⁺. Com base nas análises citogenéticas realizadas não foram observadas diferenças no tratamento com o Al³⁺.

The aluminum (Al³⁺) is an abundant metal in the crust of the Earth, occuring in acid soils. The present work had as objectives identify a methodology to discriminate Al³⁺ tolerance in maize; verify the existence of genetic variability for the trait in two open-pollination populations and three segregants populations and determine genetic parameters for Al³⁺ tolerance. The concentrations of the Al³⁺ tested in treatment solution were 0,2 and 6 mgL-¹ and the calcium (Ca²⁺) concentrations were 20 e 40mgL-¹. The variables used to discriminate the Al³⁺ tolerance was PL (the main root initial length), SL (the main root final length), the difference (DIF) between SL and PL, relative difference (DIFR) and weight (WEIGHT) of the seedings after treatment. According to the results, the best combination of the Al³⁺ and Ca²⁺ were 6 and 40 mgL-¹, respectively. The variable DIF showed the best discrimination of Al³⁺ tolerant genotypes. There was genetic variability for the trait in both open-pollinated populations evaluated. Sinético Elite showed higher tolerance level than Tuxpeño. On the other hand, genetic variability could only be found of F2 generation of the cross T1xS3 (SR1502 (T)/SH6707 (S)). The results obtained in the cross T1xT2 (SR1502(T)/CP2523 (T)) suggested that the same gene for tolerance was present in both inbreds. It was suggested the present of few genes with effect large and the presence of dominance to Al³⁺ sensibility. Based on citogenic analysis carried out, differences have not been observed in Al³⁺ treatment.
