Uso de índices de vegetação para predição da biomassa e do teor de proteína bruta em pastagens naturais | Use of vegetation indices for biomass and crude protein prediction in natural grasslands

A base do manejo das pastagens naturais é conciliar as demandas nutricionais dos animais com a manutenção do potencial produtivo das plantas forrageiras. Ao serem estudadas sob pastejo, buscando otimizar conservação e produção, testa-se principalmente, a influência de diferentes intensidades de pastoreio e níveis de intensificação com utilização de insumos. Este estudo foi conduzido nas estações experimentais da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul/UFRGS, Brasil (área experimental 1 – AE1), e do Insituto Nacional de Investigacion Agropecuaria/INIA Tacuarembó, Uruguay (área experimental 2 – AE2), no período de nov/2017 a set/2018. O objetivo foi estimar a biomassa, biomassa verde e o teor de proteína bruta das pastagens naturais através do uso de ferramentas de sensoriamento remoto, imagem digital e índices de vegetação. Na AE1 acompanhou-se 5 tratamentos: manejo por distintas ofertas de forragem de 1, 2, 3, 4 kg MS/ha para cada kg PV, mais um tratamento de controle da estrutura ótima do pasto, manejado por altura e denominado ‘controle total da estrutura’. Na AE2 acompanhou-se 3 tratamentos: altura do pasto em 8-10 cm, sem aplicação de insumos; altura do pasto em 8-10 cm com fertilização na primavera; altura do pasto em 8-10 cm com fertilização na primavera e introdução de Lotus Angustissimus. Nos 8 tratamentos, em suas duas repetições, estabeleceu-se 5 subníveis entre 5% - 95% de percentual de biomassa verde, dados pela avaliação visual de sua proporção em cada unidade experimental, por estação do ano, onde avaliou-se duas amostras por subnível em cada tratamento, totalizando 640 amostras. Em cada amostra de 0,25m2 realizou-se identificação de espécies, captura de imagem com Iphone 6s, levantamento de NDVI via GreenSeeker, corte manual da forragem para determinação da massa de forragem (kg MS/ha). Destas, 320 amostras foram separadas manualmente entre material verde e senescido, com posterior análise de nitrogênio. As imagens foram processadas pelo Software R para identificação dos valores dos pixels RGB (red, green and blue) das imagens. O método estatístico utilizado foi a regressão dos mínimos quadrados. Obteve-se coeficiente de determinação (R2) de 0,37 para biomassa e 0,69 para biomassa verde (Capítulo II), e R2 = 0,63 para proteína bruta total (Capítulo III), considerando NDVI, RGB, altura do pasto, classificações de pixels e espécies forrageiras. Os modelos gerados possibilitam monitorar a qualidade do ambiente pastoril, contribuindo para uma melhor utilização das áreas sob pastejo animal.

The basis of management of natural grasslands is to reconcile the nutritional demands of the animals with the maintenance of the productive potential of plants, which, in studies on forage quality, are guided according to the grazing intensity under different levels of intensification. This study was conducted at the experimental stations of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul / UFRGS, Brazil (experimental area 1), and the National Institute of Agricultural Research / INIA Tacuarembó, Uruguay (experimental area 2), from November 2017 to September of 2018, aiming to estimate the biomass and green biomass, as well as the crude protein content of the natural grasslands with the use of tools of the remote sensing, digital image and vegetation indices. Five treatments were conducted in experimental area 1: management by different forage allowances of 1, 2, 3, 4 kg DM / ha for each kg PV, and a treatment based on the optimal sward structure, managed by sward height and called 'total structure', all without the use of inputs. In the experimental area 2 were conducted three treatments: management by sward height without application of inputs; management by sward height with intensification by fertilization in two stages; management by sward height with fertilization and introduction of Lotus Angustissimus. In addition to the treatments, sub-levels ranging from 5% to 95% of green material were established, based on the visual evaluation of dominant green material proportions in the experimental units, in each season of the year. Identification of species, image capture with Iphone 6s, NDVI via GreenSeeker, manual cutting of forage to determination of forage mass (kg MS/ha), were performed in each 0.25m2 sample. Of these, 320 samples were manually separated between green and senesced material, with subsequent nitrogen analysis. The images were processed by the R Software to identify the values of the RGB (red, green and blue) pixels of the images. The statistical method used was Partial Least Squares regression. Coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.37 for biomass and 0.69 for green biomass (Chapter II) was obtained, and R2 = 0.63 for total crude protein (Chapter III), considering NDVI, RGB, sward height, pixel classifications and forage species. The generated models allow to monitor the quality of the pastoral environment, contributing to a better use of the areas under animal grazing.
