Qualidade do ar e das chuvas em Porto Alegre

Este estudo apresenta uma avaliação da qualidade do ar e das chuvas em Porto Alegre no período compreendido entre Outubro/98 e Março/99, assim como a aplicação do modelo ISCST3 para testar a aderência estatística dos dados levantados àquele modelo da U.S EPA. Os dados de qualidade do ar foram cedidos pela FEPAM/RS e pela SMAM/PMPA. Os dados de qualidade da chuva foram obtidos mediante a instalação de uma rede de amostragem constituída por onze amostradores estrategicamente espalhados pela cidade de Porto Alegre. Para o ar, foram analisados os parâmetros SO₂, NOx e partículas totais em suspensão (PTS). Na chuva foram medidos a temperatura da amostra, pH, condutividade, acidez, alcalinidade, DQO, sulfatos, cloretos, nitratos, fosfatos, Ca, Mg, Na, K Pb, Cu, Cd, Hg e Fe total. Verificou-se que, em geral, durante o período do levantamento, a qualidade do ar em Porto Alegre esteve dentro dos padrões estabelecidos pela Resolução CONAMA N° 3 de 28/06/90, com exceção da estação Benjamin Constant na qual a concentração de PTS superou o padrão primário anual. Verificou-se nas chuvas uma melhoria em relação ao estudo realizado pelo IPH/UFRGS no período 1986/1987. O pH das chuvas não apresenta mais características de chuvas ácidas, com valores entre 5,8 e 6,6. O sódio, juntamente com o cálcio, são os cátions que dominam a composição química da precipitação de Porto Alegre, sugerindo que a acidez da precipitação esteja controlada pelo efeito tampão destes íons na chuva. Os cloretos, sulfatos e nitratos são, nesta ordem, os principais ânions. A concentração de amônia, fosfato total, e metais tais como cromo chumbo e mercúrio classificam as chuvas portoalegrenses como águas de classe 4 pela resolução CONAMA. N° 20 de 06/06/86. Por outro lado, verificou-se a aderência do modelo ISCST3 na simulação de SO₂ e NOx na área urbana de Porto Alegre mostrando que não são ultrapassadas as concentrações médias anuais daqueles contaminantes na área e que algumas estações de amostragem devem ser reposicionadas.

This study presents an evaluation of the quality of the air and of the rainwater of Porto Alegre in the period October/98 to March/99, as well as the application of the ISCST3 model to test the statistical adherence of the collected data to that of the USEPA. The air quality data was collected by FEPAM/RS and SMAM/PMPA. The rainwater quality data was obtained by means of the installation of a sampling network constituted of eleven samplers spread strategically in the area of Porto Alegre. For the air, the parameters SO₂, NOX and the particles were analyzed . Temperature, pH, conductivity, acidity, alkalinity, DQO, sulphates, chlorides, nitrates, phosphates, calcium, magnesium, potassium, lead, cooper, cadmium, mercury and total iron in the rainwater, were measured. It was verified that as common ground the quality of the air in Porto Alegre was within the standards established in the CONAMA N° 3 Resolution of 06/28/90, except for the sampling station Benjamin Constant, in which the concentration of particles overcame the average annual primary standard. An improvement in the quality of the rain was verified in comparison with the study accomplished by IPH/UFRGS in the year 1986/1987. The pH of the rainwater didn't present characteristics of acid rain, with values ranging from 5.8 to 6.6. Sodium and calcium are the most important cations of the precipitation of Porto Alegre suggesting that the acidity of the precipitation is controlled, mainly, by the effect of these ions. The chlorides, sulphates and nitrates are in this order, the main anions. The concentration of ammonia, phosphate and metals such as chromium lead and mercury in the rainwater classify the water as class 4 according to the Brazilian Council of Environmental, CONAMA. On the other hand, the SO₂ and NOx simulations with the ISCST3 model show that the average annual concentration of the contaminants obey the standards and that some monitoring stations should be better positioned to account for the air contamination.
