Spanish; Castilian. Resumen: La transformación de materia fecal bovina en el campo se atribuye a factores bióticos y abióticos. Los insectos estercoleros son los principales representantes del primer grupo. La desagregación que generan los insectos favorece notablemente la incorporación de nutrientes al suelo, incrementando así el crecimiento del forraje. En circunstancias donde la deposición de los animales quedas estática (momificada), los nutrientes no vuelven al suelo y la superficie de pastoreo se ve reducida. El objetivo de este trabajo fue identificar la fauna estercolera en deposiciones de bovinos criollos de la cuenca del Río Salado. El 68 % de los ejemplares recolectados correspondieron a Aphodius lividus. Este coleóptero fue el de mayor relevancia, apareciendo en el 98 % de las muestras recolectadas entre 72 y 96 horas post deposición.Palabras-clave: Bovinos criollos; Materia fecal bovina; Aphodius lividusAbstract: The transformation of bovine manure in the field is attributed to biotic and abiotic factors. Dung insects are the main representatives of the first group. The disaggregation generated by insects significantly favors the incorporation of nutrients into the soil, increasing the growth of forage. In circumstances where the animals' deposition remains static (mummified), nutrients do not return to the soil and the grazing surface is reduced. The objective of this work was to identify the dung fauna in depositions of Creole cattle from the Salado River basin. 68% of the specimens collected corresponded to Aphodius lividus. This beetle was the most relevant, appearing in 98% of the samples collected between 72 and 96 hours post-deposition.Keywords: Creole cattle; Bovine manure; Aphodius lividus
