Nutrient uptake characteristics of hana-nira, a variety of Allium tuberosum

We investigated characteristics of the nutrient uptake by drip fertigation of Hana-nira, a variety of Allium tuberosum. The plant was cultivated for 15 months after March planting, and was harvested at the end of June the following year. 1. Total absorbed amounts of N, P2O5 and K2O per thousand square meters was 55, 17 and 54 kg, respectively, and absorbed amounts of five elements at the top had the order K2O, N, CaO, P2O5 and MgO. 2. Dry matter production and absorbed amounts of N, P2O5 and K2O at the top increased slowly between November/December and January/February of the following year. 3. The NO3sup(-) concentration of scape and leaf had strong correlation with the N content of the leaf. 4. NO3sup(-) concentration of leaf juice fluctuated widely (by 400-4600 ppm) during the cultivation period, and it was indicated that the nutrient status of Hana-nira could possibly be determined in real time.
