CUTTING FREQUENCY STUDY ON FORAGE PRODUCTION AND LEAF-STEM RELATIONSHIP OF PASTURE Urochloa brizantha cv. PAIAGUÁS | ESTUDIO DE FRECUENCIA DE CORTE SOBRE LA PRODUCCIÓN FORRAJERA Y RELACIÓN HOJA-TALLO DEL PASTO Urochloa brizantha cv. PAIAGUÁS

English. The objective of this work was to evaluate organic fertilizer (bird manure) in the production and nutritional quality of grass Urochhloa brizantha cv Paiaguás during the rainy season in East Panama. Four, three and two cuts were made every 30, 40 and 50 days, applied with a single urea fertilization, to the grass Urochhloa brizantha cv. Paiaguás, in a randomized complete block experimental design in divided plots with four replications to evaluate behavior and yield, leaf-stem ratio of Urochhloa brizantha cv. Paiaguás. Cutting frequencies did not significantly affect the dry matter content of Urochhloa brizantha cv. Paiaguás both in the leaf and stem portion. For the leaf and stem portion, the dry matter yields did not differ significantly, however, they increased as the cutting intervals increased. In the yield of dry matter (kg/ha) according to days of cutting in the different cutting frequencies, significant differences were only presented when cuts were made at 30 days. Crude protein in both portions did not detect significant differences as a result of the three cutoff frequencies. In the leaf and stem portion, the highest crude protein contents were found in the lowest cut frequencies studied. The effect of cutting frequencies of 30, 40 and 50 days on phosphorus content did not show significant differences in the leaf and stem portions. For the leaf portion in the calcium content, it was observed that there were no significant differences due to the effect of the cutting frequencies. In the stem portion there was a significant difference in the intervals of evaluated cuts. There was no significant effect between the frequencies of cuts at 30, 40 and 50 days in both the leaf and stem portions in the variable potassium content (%).

El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar abono orgánico (estiércol de aves) en la producción y calidad nutritiva del pasto Urochhloa brizantha cv Paiaguás durante la temporada lluviosa en Panamá Este. Fueron realizados cuatro, tres y dos cortes cada 30, 40 y 50 días, aplicados con una sola fertilización de urea, al pasto Urochloa brizantha cv. Paiaguás, en un diseño experimental de Bloques completos al azar en parcelas divididas con cuatro repeticiones para evaluar el comportamiento y rendimiento, relación hoja-tallo de la U. brizantha cv. Paiaguás Las frecuencias de corte no afectaron significativamente el contenido de materia seca del pasto Brachiaria brizantha cv. Paiaguás tanto en la porción hoja como tallo. Para la porción hoja y tallo los rendimientos de materia seca no difirieron significativamente, sin embargo, aumentaron a medida que se incrementaban los intervalos de corte. En el rendimiento de materia seca (kg/ha) según días de corte en las diferentes frecuencias de corte solo se presentó diferencias significativas cuando se realizaron cortes a los 30 días La proteína bruta en ambas porciones no detecto diferencias significativas   como resultado de las tres frecuencias de corte.  En la porción hoja y tallo los mayores contenidos de proteína cruda fueron encontrados en las menores frecuencias de cortes estudiadas. El efecto de las frecuencias de corte de 30, 40 y 50 días sobre el contenido de fósforo no mostró diferencias significativas en las porciones hojas y tallos. Para la porción hoja en los contenidos de calcio se pudo observar que no hubo diferencias significativas por efecto de las frecuencias de cortes. En la porción tallo se presentó diferencia significativa en los intervalos de cortes evaluados. No hubo efecto significativo entre las frecuencias de cortes a los 30, 40 y 50 días tanto en la porción hoja como tallo en la variable contenido de potasio (%).
