HAS NO TITLE. | EVALUACIÓN DE HÍBRIDOS TRIPLES Y DOBLES DE MAÍZ (Zea mays L.) DE GRANO AMARILLO EN PANAMÁ, 1987.

English. Corn hybrids use in mechanized planting areas in Panama represent an annual investment of US $ 6,000, 000.00 in seed value importance. This strategic corn production input increased 30% the corn production and productivity in Panama. The presented study was made to determine the adaptation, yield potential and agronomic characteristics of new hybrids developed by IDIAP'S corn hybrids program with yellow grain homozygous lines organited at CIMMYT. Diallel crosses were evaluated in 1986, to predict the formation of double and triple yellow grains, superior hybrids were evaluated in 1987 at two sites of the Los Santos corn area. In the combined variance analysis for yield and agronomic characteristics highly significant differences were detected, between genotypes and the genotype-environment interaction for all variables studied; in the triple crosses serial some hybrids were identified with better yield and agronomic characteristics than X-304-C, yields of experimental hybrids IDIAP-304, 305 and 306 were 5010, 4939 and 4816 kg/ha, respectively, 17% better than Pioneer 304C. Estimeted correlations between yield and agronomic characteristics showed a negative value (r=0.59) for yield an ear cover. Superior hybrids evaluation and seed increases in farmer's field are recomended.

Spanish; Castilian. La utilización de híbridos de maíz en las áreas de siembra mecanizada de Panamá representa una inversión anual de B/.600,000.00 en importación de semilla F1. Este insumo estratégico para la producción de maíz, contribuye en 30% al incremento de la producción y productividad de este cultivo en Panamá. El presente estudio se realizó con el objetivo de determinar la adaptación, el potencial de rendimiento y características agronómicas de nuevos híbridos desarrollados por el programa de maíz del IDIAP, en base a líneas endogámicas de grano amarillo originadas en CIMMYT. En 1986, se evaluaron cruzamientos dialécticos que dieron origen a predicciones para formar híbridos dobles y triples de grano amarillo; los híbridos superiores se evaluaron durante 1987 en dos localidades de la zona maicera de Azuero. El análisis de varianza combinado para rendimiento y características agronómicas detectó diferencias altamente significativas entre genotipos y la interacción genotipo x ambiente para todas las variables en estudio; en la serie de cruzas triples y dobles se identificaron híbridos que superaron en rendimiento y características agronómicas al X-304C. Las correlaciones estimadas entre rendimiento y características agronómicas sólo mostraron asociación negativa significativa (r= –0.59) entre rendimiento y cobertura de mazorca. Se recomienda la evaluación de los híbridos superiores en campos de agricultores e iniciar la producción de semilla.
