Obtención de aceite esencial de muña (Minthostachys mollis) y huacatay (Tagetes minuta) por hidrodestilación usando ultrasonido como pretratamiento Los aceites esenciales (AE) son estudiados frente a diversas enfermedades reemplazando los tratamientos con fármacos, donde pretenden usarlos como solución de salud utilizando plantas medicinales. La muña y el huacatay son dos plantas que son investigadas por sus propiedades cicatrizantes, antifungicidas, antimicótica, frente a enfermedades del estómago, bronquiales, entre otras. La presente investigación se realizó con el objetivo extraer el aceite esencial de muña y huacatay mediante hidrodestilación, aplicando ultrasonido (US) como pretratamiento, para intentar mejorar el proceso de extracción de los AE. Las plantas de muña fueron adquiridas del mercado de la cuidad de Tingo María procedentes de la cuidad de Huánuco y las plantas de huacatay fueron adquiridas del mercado N°2 de la cuidad de Tarapoto procedentes del distrito de San Roque, Lamas. La investigación tuvo una duración de 6 meses. Tanto para la extracción de AE de muña y huacatay se usó el ultrasonido como pretratamiento a potencias del ultrasonido (50% y 75%) y tiempo de ultrasonido (2 y 4 minutos), luego se pasó al proceso de extracción por hidrodestilación, para muña se extrajo a 60 minutos y para huacatay en 35 minutos. Se obtuvieron rendimientos de extracción en ambos aceites esenciales, donde no hubo diferencia significativa entre los ensayos, en muña el de mayor rendimiento fue el ensayo de 2 min 50% de US (1,24 ± 0,02%), y en el huacatay el de mayor rendimiento fue el ensayo de 2 min 50% de US (0,41 ± 0,04%). Los resultados en cuanto al contenido de Fenoles Totales, indicó que fueron estadísticamente diferentes, alcanzándose valores más altos con el ensayo de 4 min 75% de US para muña (12,75 ± 1,40 mg EAG/ mL AE) y el ensayo Control para el huacatay (31,04 ± 0,80 mg EAG/ mL AE). En la actividad antimicrobiana tanto en el AE de muña como de huacatay, resultaron tener alta actividad inhibitoria frente a las cepas enfrentadas, pero no superaron a los controles positivos. Se encontraron 11 posibles compuestos químicos en el aceite esencial de muña, siendo los compuestos mayoritarios L-mentona (27,15%), isovaleraldehído (16,76%), e isomentona (11,03%) y en el aceite esencial de huacatay 10 posibles compuestos, siendo los mayoritarios cis-tagetone (37,06%), γ-tetradecalactona (17,39%) y Fotocitral B (9,70%).

Regarding the antimicrobial activity of both the muña and huacatay EO, they proved to have high inhibitory activity against the strains tested, but they did not overcome the positive controls. Eleven possible chemical compounds were found in the essential oil of muña, the major compounds being L-menthone (27.15%), isovaleraldehyde (16.76%), and isomenthone (11.03%) and in the essential oil of huacatay 10 possible compounds, the major compounds being cis-tagetone (37.06%), γ-tetradecalactone (17.39%) and Photocitral B (9.70%).
