Show more [+] Less [-]In addition to improved nutritional content, the new potato varieties were found to be resistant to late blight disease, and with a higher yield; farmers incomes show increases of 18%. Seeds have been distributed to 650 farmers for the next season. The project established meeting spaces within the existing Farmer Field School programs. Through a participatory process, men and women farmers improved their capacity for agricultural production and chose the best potato cultivars for their particular agronomic conditions. The project’s success resulted in national public institutions giving priority to the rural sector in their food security policies.
