Climate variability and water availability in Ouagadougou's informal settlements
2015
Soura, A.B.
Access to potable water in settlements remains a significant challenge and is worsening under a changing climate. The lack of clean water affects the health and living conditions of the 300,000 people living in settlements. Researchers assessed water quality at three sites and surveyed a random sample of 1500 households every three months to gather data on water collection and storage conditions. Local associations, NGOs, and those with influence need to convince and educate the public to change their water hygiene behaviour. As well, water source operators must be trained in hygiene practices.
