English. The article gives a definition of the concepts of synopsis and abstract in accordance with GOST R 7.0.99-2018, their intended uses, functions and differences from each other. It is emphasized that synopsis and abstract are a form of compression of information. The structure and requirements for the text of an abstract are considered. The methodology of abstracting is considered in detail. It is emphasized that the structure of an abstract should correspond to the structure of a scientific article. The ways of presenting abstract information are considered: citation; paraphrasing; interpretation. Recommendations for writing keywords are given.

Подчеркивается, что аннотация и реферат являются формой свертывания информации. Рассмотрена структура и требования к тексту реферата. Подробно рассмотрена методика реферирования. Подчеркивается, что структура реферата должна соответствовать структуре научной статьи. Рассмотрены способы изложения реферативной информации: цитирование; перефразировка; интерпретация. Даны рекомендации по написанию ключевых слов.
