[EN] Several marine species in the Mediterranean produce molecules with bioactive potential that could be used to develop new drugs (antibiotics, antifungals, antivirals, and antitumourals). Different human activities such as pollution, marine recreation, and fishing, as well as climate change, threaten and even endanger some of these species. These vulnerable species with bioactive potential must be protected, especially in marine reserves, not only because they are valuable components of marine ecosystems, but also because they are a potential source of molecules with pharmacological properties that are currently being researched for the creation of new drugs

[ES] Varias especies marinas del Mediterráneo producen moléculas con potencial bioactivo que podrían utilizarse para descubrir nuevos medicamentos (antibióticos, antifúngicos, antivirales y antitumorales). Diferentes actividades humanas como la contaminación, las actividades recreativas marítimas, la pesca y el cambio climático hacen que algunas de estas especies se encuentren amenazadas e, incluso, en peligro de extinción. Hay que proteger estas especies vulnerables con potencial bioactivo, sobre todo en las reservas marinas, no solo porque son componentes valiosos de los ecosistemas marinos, sino también porque son una fuente potencial de moléculas con propiedades farmacológicas que actualmente se están investigando para descubrir nuevos medicamentos
