Euphorbia lathyris as an energy crop - Part II. Hydrocarbon and sugar productivity

The ratio of stems to leaves and content of hydrocarbons and sugars have been studied in plants of E. lathyris. Sowing took place in spring and final harvest approximately 15 months later. Two plant densities (36 000 and 143 000 plants ha-1) and the effect of fertilizer application and irrigation have been evaluated. Low plant density, lack of irrigation and prolonged growth seem to be the most appropriate conditions for optimum hydrocarbon yield. © 1984.
