In den Jahren 2000 und 2001 wurden im Gebiet des nördlichen Harzvorlandes in Aschersleben und Quedlinburg neun Fenchel-Populationen (Sorten und Herkünfte) im Kleinparzellenfeldversuch verglichen. Der Eintritt der Reife variierte maximal um 13 Tage. Die mittlere Wuchshöhe schwankte zwischen 102 und 167 cm und die mittlere Tausendkornmasse zwischen 4,43 und 6, 17 g. Die Population 'Budaka/aszi' erreichte mit 54,3 % den größten mittleren Anteil der Früchte in der Siebfraktion 1 - 2 mm. Bei der Farbmessung nach dem C/ELAB-System wies 'Magnafena' mehr dunklere Farbtöne und eine bulgarische Herkunft des süßen Fenchels hellere und mehr nach gelb tendierende Farbtöne auf. Den höchsten mittleren Ertrag brachte 'Berfena' mit 16,5 dt!ha. 'Magnafena' und 'Berfena' hatten mit 10, 6 und 9,5 % den höchsten Gehalt an ätherischem Öl. Der in PharmEur mit 60 % geforderte Mindestgehalt an Anethol wurde von allen Populationen mit Ausnahme von 'Magnafena' (57, 1 %) und der mit 15 % geforderte Mindestgehalt an Fenchon mit Ausnahme der Herkünfte aus Frankreich (14,9 %) und Bulgarien (9,9 %) erreicht. Keine Population überschritt den zulässigen Höchstwert für Estragol von 5 %. Den geringsten mittleren Estragolgehalt hatte 'Magnafena' mit 1,99 %. Die meisten Populationen wiesen die für bitteren Fenchel charakteristischen Merkmale auf. Nur die bulgarische Herkunft hatte ein dem süßen Fenchel entsprechendes Inhaltsstoffspektrum.

English. Nine fennel cu/tivars were compared in field experiments at the /ocations Aschersleben and Quedlinburg in the northern region of the Harz mountains in the years 2000 and 2001. The outset of the maturity varied maximum by 13 d. The average growth height ranged between 107 and 167 cm and the average thousand seed weight between 4.43 and 6. 17 g. The cultivar 'Budakalaszi' had with 54.3 % the highest average portion of fruits in the sieve fraction 1 - 2 mm. According to measurements of the CIELAB colour components 'Magnafena' was darker coloured and a Bulgarian provenance of sweet fennel was brighter with a tendency to yel/ow. The maximum average yie/d of 'Berfena' was 16.5 dtlha. The essential oil content of 'Magnafena' and 'Berfena' had the highest level with 10.6 und 9.5 %. The minimum acceptable anethole content of the oil according to the European Pharmacopoeia requires at least 60 % anethole and 15 % fenchone. These requirements were met by all populations except 'Magnafena' with 57.1 % anethole and 'Frankreich' and 'Bulgarien' with 14.9 and 9.9 % fenchone only. No population exceeded the maximum acceptable estrago/e content of 5 %. The lowest average estragole content of 1.99 % was determined with 'Magnafena '. Most populations complied with the bitter fennel trait expression. Only the Bulgarian accession had a sweet fennel like chemica/ composition.
