Mit Trichogramma gegen Maiszünsler im Oderbruch? – Erfahrungen aus dem Jahr 2003 | About the efficacy of Trichogramma against the European Corn Borer in the Oderbruch, a region of eastern Germany, in 2003

German. Im Jahre 2003 konnten auf einem Teilstück eines gemeinsamen Versuches des Landespflanzenschutzdienstes Brandenburg und der Fa. MONSANTO zur Maiszünslerbekämpfung eigene Untersuchungen zur Wirkung von Trichogramma-Schlupfwespen unter den Bedingungen des Oderbruchs durchgeführt werden. Nach negativen Erfahrungen anderer Versuchsansteller im Oderbruch in den Vorjahren wurde mit hohen Aufwandmengen und drei Freilassungsterminen gearbeitet. Trotzdem war die Maiszünsler-Reduzierung in diesem ungewöhnlich heißen und trockenen Jahr nicht zufrieden stellend. Einige mögliche Ursachen werden aufgeführt: Gewitter, uneinheitlicher Wuchs der Pflanzen, mangelnde Berührung der Pflanzen, Rollen der Blätter und Ameisen. Da es sich nur um einjährige Untersuchungen handelt, sind Verallgemeinerungen nicht möglich. Doch scheint der Einsatz von Trichogramma gegen den Maiszünsler unter den oft extremen Bedingungen und dem hohen Befall im Oderbruch noch verbesserungsbedürftig und verbesserungsfähig zu sein.

In 2003 there was the possibility to use a part of a field trial of the official plant protection service in Brandenburg and the Monsanto company to control the European corn borer for own investigations about the efficacy of Trichogramma wasps (Chalciodea) under the conditions of the region „Oderbruch“ in eastern Germany. Because of negative experiences of other investigators in former years high doses and three times of application of the Trichogramma were used. Nevertheless the reduction of larvae of the European corn borer was not sufficient in the extraordinary hot and dry climate of that year. Some possible reasons were named: thunderstorm, not uniform growth of the plants, plants did not enough touch each other, many plants with rolling leaves and predatory ants. As this investigation comprises only one year it is not possible to generalize the results. But it seems that at these extreme conditions and at the high infestation level the use of Trichogramma against the European corn borer in the region Oderbruch has to be improved and that this is possible.
