Untersuchungen zur Bedeutung des Auftretens von Datura stramonium in Mais und Rispenhirse | Investigations on the importance of the occurrence of Datura stramonium in maize and common millet

Dem Europäischen Schnellwarnsystem für Lebensmittel und Futtermittel (RASFF) sind regelmäßig Meldungen über Tropanalkaloid-belastete Getreideprodukte (insbesondere Mais und Rispenhirse) zu entnehmen. Tropanalkaloide sind sekundäre Pflanzenstoffe, die z. B. in Nachtschattengewächsen wie dem Weißen Stechapfel (Datura stramonium) enthalten sind. Kommt es zur Kontamination des Erntegutes, können Tropanalkaloide für unterschiedliche Vergiftungserscheinungen verantwortlich sein. In zweijährigen Feldversuchen wurden die Konkurrenzfähigkeit von Datura stramonium in Mais sowie die Kontaminationswege in das Erntegut bei Körnermais und Rispenhirse untersucht. Als ein Ergebnis der Versuche zeigte sich, dass die Art unter unseren Anbaubedingungen als konkurrenzschwach einzustufen ist. Dennoch sollte das Auftreten von Datura stramonium in Feldbeständen begrenzt werden, da nur wenige Pflanzen pro Hektar ausreichend sind, um eine Grenzwertüberschreitung mit Tropanalkaloiden herbeizuführen.

English. The European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) regularly reports on tropane alkaloid-contaminated cereal products (in particular maize and common millet). Tropane alkaloids are secondary plant substances. Tropane alkaloids are included for example in different nightshade plants, such like Datura stramonium. If there are contaminations of the crop, tropane alkaloids may be responsible for different symptoms of intoxication. In two-year field trials, the behavior of competition of Datura stramonium in corn as well as the contamination paths into the harvested crop of grain maize and common millet were examined. As a result of the experiments, it was found that the species under our growing conditions is considered to be low competitive. Nevertheless, only a few plants per hectare are sufficient to cause a limit exceedance with tropane alkaloids.
