Die Begleiter des Maiszünslers | The associates of European Corn Borer

Im Rahmen eines Untersuchungsprogramms zu ökologischen Auswirkungen des Anbaues von Bt-Mais (Cry1Ab) im Oderbruch (Brandenburg) in den Jahren 2000 bis 2006 wurde die Zusammensetzung der Arthropodengesellschaft in konventionellen, nicht mit Insektiziden behandelten Maisbeständen analysiert. Dazu erfolgten Bonituren, Ganzpflanzenentnahmen und Bodenfallenfänge. Der Maiszünsler (Ostrinia nubilalis) trat im Bereich der Schadensschwelle auf (0,43 Larven pro Stängel). Er scheint relativ konkurrenzlos und beziehungslos zu anderen Arthropodentaxa zu leben. Andere Maisschädlinge, wie die Fritfliege (Oscinella frit) und Blattläuse (Rhopalosiphum padi, Metopolophium dirhodum u. a.) traten in unterschiedlicher Abundanz völlig unabhängig vom Maiszünsler auf. Blattläuse entwickelten bis Ende der Maisblüte häufig hohe Dichten und sorgten somit für eine enorme Präsenz der klassischen polyphagen und blattlausspezifischen Prädatoren. Das Potenzial der Gegenspieler des Maiszünslers erwies sich als gering. In den untersuchten Maisbeständen traten insgesamt ca. 1000 Arthropoden-Arten auf.

Within a research program on ecological effects of growing Bt maize (Cry1Ab), the structure of arthropod communities in conventional non-insecticide treated maize fields was investigated in Oderbruch landscape (state Brandenburg) in the years 2000 to 2006. The methods used were counts, whole-plant harvests with arthropod determination in laboratory and pitfall trappings. The European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) occurred in the range of economic threshold (0.43 larvae per stem), and seems to live relatively unrivalled and unrelated to other arthropod taxa in maize fields. Other pests such as frit fly (Oscinella frit) and aphids (Rhopalosiphum padi, Metopolophium dirhodum) infested maize in different densities independently from European corn borer. Aphid infestation rose up to the end of maize flowering and caused remarkable densities in most of the years; and induced a high presence of polyphagous and aphid-specific predators in that period. The potential of natural enemies of European corn borer was low. Estimations considering our results showed that about 1,000 arthropod species occurred in the maize fields.
