German. Veränderungen der Zusammensetzung der Atmosphäre und der atmosphärischen Depositionen zur Folge. Nationale Regelungen und internationale Abkommen haben daher Emissionsminderungen zum Ziel. In der Landwirtschaft in Mitteleuropa trifft dies vor allem für Ammoniak zu, dessen Hauptquelle die Rinderhaltung ist. Um schätzen zu können, welche Maßnahmen wie wirksam und mit welchen Nebenwirkungen sie gekoppelt sind, werden Stoffflussmodelle eingesetzt. Mit solchen Modellen werden die Einflüsse von Leistung, Nutzungsdauer, Krankheiten und Abgängen und Weidegang sowie die Wahl des Mineraldüngers im Pflanzenbau abgebildet. Die genannten Maßnahmen sind nicht mit zusätzlichen Kosten verbunden. Leistungssteigerung ist nur dann eine emissionsmindernde Maßnahme, wenn die Menge des erzeugten Produkts nicht zunimmt, im Klartext: wenn als Folge die Herden verkleinert werden. Verbesserung des Tierwohls und Emissionsminderung gehen in die gleiche Richtung.

English. The emissions of gasses and particulate matter result in adverse changes in the composition of the atmosphere and the atmospheric deposition. National legislation and international conventions aim at a reduction of the respective emissions. In Central Europe, agriculture is affected as the predominant source of ammonia which itself is coined by emissions from cattle. In order to assess the effectiveness of measures taken and of the side effects linked to them, mass flow models are used. Such models depict the impact of performance, useful life, illnesses and deaths as well as grazing or the choice of mineral fertilizers in plant production. These measures do not lead to additional costs. Improved performance leads to emission reductions if production is not expanded – in plain terms: if the number of animals is reduced accordingly. Improvements of animal health and emission reduction work along the same lines.
