Treatment of liquid manure with nutrient recovery | Behandlung von Flüssigmist mit Nährstoffrückgewinnung

German. Due to reasons for environmental protection in many European countries the land application of liquid manure is restricted. Therefore a research project was started to reduce the nitrogen content by 70 % and the phosphate content by 50 %. The first step is the physical separation. The separated solid material is composted whereas the liquid fraction is treated in two different ways: the ammonia desorption or stripping in a counter-current packed column or the aerobic-thermophilic treatment in a fed batch or continously working bioreactor. The desorbed ammonia is led through an absorption tower. Precipitation is made to lower the phosphate content.
