Wolves (Canis lupus) coexist with several “subordinate”carnivores across its distribution range. The influence of wolves on these species, determining their distribution, abundance and behavior has been discussed extensively (Newsome et al., 2017; Prugh & Sivy, 2020), with potential cascading effects (Levi & Wilmers, 2012). Of particular interest is the suggested low tolerance of wolves against other Canidae species (Krofel et al., 2017; Levi & Wilmers, 2012;Newsome & Ripple, 2015), such as golden jackals (Canis aureus). The ranges of wolves and golden jackals over-lap over vast areas across Eurasia. In Eurasianhuman-dominated landscapes, both species are efficient fac-ultative scavengers (e.g., Cirovic et al., 2016; Mohammadiet al., 2019; Planella et al., 2016).
