Survey on management quality and risk level of rural solid wastes (Case study: Rural areas of Zabol township)

One of the problems formed along with rapid population growth and rural development in third world countries, especially Iran, is the expansion of solid wastes produced in domestic, agricultural, animal husbandry sections and training, health and therapy centers. Assigning villages management to Dehyaris (governors of villages) and somehow to their people has caused some challenges and opportunities. Therefore by using descriptive - analytic studies, theoretical investigations, field observations, and interviews with Village Islamic Council, local experts and Dehyars, survey on the status of solid waste management in rural areas of Zabol. Research findings indicate that the status of solid waste management in Allahabad and Keykha villages is fair and the rest of villages are poor and very poor. So regarding the current status of solid waste management, solid wastes depending on its type and measure are expected to have different levels of risks. Findings also confirmed that the risk level of the 15.9 per cent of the villages studied is high. Therfore it is recommended that villagers be informed about the risks of insanitary disposal of solid wastes and develop the culture of paying attention villages health and beauty. On the other hand, regarding the 120 day wind of Sistan, to prevent contamination of rural areas, south and southeast zone of villages should be chosen for solid waste disposal sites and with regards to the distribution, multiplicity and short distance of Zabol villages from each other, centralized management of solid wastes, especially solid wastes produced by health and treatment centers in rural district of this township is absolutely necessary.
