Investigations of the yield of onions grown from seedlings were carried out at the Lithuanian Institute of Horticulture in 2001-2003. There were investigated edible onions (Allium Cepa L.) Lietuvos didieji, Stutgarten Riesen, Centurion F1, Jetset F1. It is possible to grow for early yield the onions of all the investigated cultivars and hybrids. After 85 days (25 07) marketable yield of the turnips of onion cultivar Centurion was 24.7 t/ha, Stutgarten Riesen – 22.0 t/ha, Jetset F1 – 21.0 t/ha, Lietuvos didieji – 14.9 t/ha. The biggest output of the marketable production of onion cultivar Centurion F1 was obtained after 99 days, Stutgarten Riesen – after 113 days. Onion cultivars Centurion F1 and Stutgarter Riesen gathered more lately produced the biggest yield. The yield of onion cultivars Centurion F1 and Stutgarter Riesen is big, but when they are gathered more early the losses are bigger. When onion cultivars Lietuvos didieji and Jetset F1 were gathered more early the yield losses were smaller. When suitable cultivars are chosen and onions are grown from seedlings it is possible to get early onion yield in the second decade of July.
