Changes of nitrate and cadmium content in carrots as related to soil and climatic factors
Włodzimierz Sady | Rafał Grys | Stanisław Rożek
English. In 1996-1998 nitrate and cadmium content in carrot storage roots and in carrot pulp were investigated in relation to physicochemical properties of the soil and climatic conditions. In carrot pulp a slightly higher nitrate level and considerably lower (by 42%) cadmium content than in the roots were observed. An increase in organic matter in the soil was accompanied by an increase in nitrate level in the carrot roots. The pH of the soil as well as saturation of the exchange sorption complex were significantly negativelly correlated with the cadmium content determined in carrot roots.
