The association between consumption of fruits and vegetables and reduction in the risk of several diseases particularly cancer has been studiedextensively over the past several years. Broccoli has gained importance for protection against cancer due to its rich vitamin and mineral content aswell as sulforaphane (4-methylsulphinylbutyl isothiocyanate) content. Sulforaphane is a plant secondary metabolite known to have anticarcinogenicproperties and naturally occurs in cruciferous vegetables, broccoli in particular. The aim of the current study is to provide updated information onthe importance of broccoli, that has been studied extensively over the last decade, in delivering potential health benefits.
