Estrutura populacional e dendroecologia de Araucária angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze em diferentes condições de crescimento no Parque Nacional do Iguaçu/PR : interior e borda de floresta natural

Resumo: Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntz pode ser considerada uma das espécies arbóreas de ocorrência mais antiga na América do Sul, além de sua relevância social, ecológica e econômica. Atualmente suas populações encontram-se drasticamente reduzidas, resguardadas em fragmentos de Floresta Ombrófila Mista e Campos. O Parque Nacional do Iguaçu no estado do Paraná representa o mais significativo remanescente de floresta subtropical do Sul do Brasil e importante refúgio na preservação da araucária. Entretanto, estudos descrevendo sua dinâmica frente a diferentes condições fitofisionômicas que ocorrem ao longo de seu habitat são inexistentes nesta unidade de conservação. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho objetivou analisar a estrutura populacional e a dendroecologia da araucária em diferentes condições de crescimento no interior florestal e na borda da floresta natural. Em cada condição de crescimento todas as araucárias a partir de 10 cm de altura foram selecionadas em 100 parcelas de 10 x 10 metros. Ao todo 479 indivíduos de araucária foram amostrados, sendo 416 ocorrendo naturalmente na borda e 63 no interior da formação florestal. Apesar da significativa diferença de densidade entre os sítios selecionados, as populações apresentaram padrão estrutural tendendo ao J-invertido. Provavelmente a menor densidade em áreas mais preservadas e em avançado estágio sucessional (interior florestal) seja característica da espécie, sendo a grande competição e a pressão de predação as principais causas desse resultado. A intensidade luminosa verificada por meio da densidade do dossel não foi um fator restritivo à regeneração da espécie, observando-se maior frequência de indivíduos regenerantes nas maiores densidades de dossel, o que não corrobora com a classificação da espécie como pioneira. Através do estudo de anéis de crescimento, foram construídas séries cronológicas para cada sítio, sendo que na borda o período observado foi de 1957 a 2010 e no interior de 1919 a 2010. A diferença entre períodos de maiores e menores crescimentos indicaram que fatores locais inerentes a cada sítio exercem forte influência no crescimento da espécie. Os indivíduos de interior apresentaram os maiores incrementos acumulados e correntes durante o período comum de 1945 a 2010, e nos 30 primeiros anos biológicos, demonstrando a melhor qualidade do sítio. Diferenças nos incrementos entre machos e fêmeas não foram comprovadas, embora os machos tenham apresentado os maiores valores. Constatou-se maior influência da temperatura mínima e máxima no crescimento das araucárias no Parque Nacional do Iguaçu. Os resultados comprovam a importância do ParNa Iguaçu na preservação desta espécie, contribuindo para o conhecimento e entendimento cientificamente embasado do comportamento da araucária em diferentes estágios sucessionais, e no estabelecimento de estratégias futuras para a sua conservação.

Abstract: Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze can be considered one of the oldest tree species occurring in South America, in addition to its social relevance, ecological and economic. Currently their populations are drastically reduced, sheltered in fragments of Araucaria Forest and Fields. The Iguaçu National Park in Paraná state represents the most significant remnant of subtropical forest in Southern Brazil and in the preservation of important refuge araucaria. However, studies describing its dynamics against different phytophysionomical conditions that occur along its habitat are nonexistent in this protected area. In this context, the present study aimed to analyze the araucaria population structure and dendroecological in different growing conditions in the forest interior and at the edge of the natural forest. In each growth condition all individuals from 10 cm height were selected in 100 plots of 10 x 10 meters. Altogether 479 individuals were sampled, with 416 occurring naturally at the edge and 63 within the forest formation. Despite the significant difference in density between the selected sites, the populations showed a structural pattern tending to J-reverse. Probably the best preserved in lower density areas and old growth (forest interior), is characteristic of the species, having great competition and predation pressure main cause of this result. The luminous intensity verified by the density of the canopy was not a limiting factor to the regeneration of the species, with a higher frequency of regenerating individuals at the higher densities canopy, which does not corroborate the classification of the species as a pioneer. Through the study of growth rings, time series were constructed for each site, and the edge was the observed period 1957-2010 and within 1919-2010. The difference between periods of higher and lower growth rates indicate that local factors inherent in each site have a strong influence on the growth of the species. Individual interior showed the highest current and accumulated increments during the coming period 1945-2010, and the first 30 biological years, demonstrating the best quality of the site. Differences in increments between males and females have not been proven, although males have presented the highest values. There was a higher influence of the minimum and maximum temperature on the growth of araucária in the Iguazu National Park. The results show the importance of ParNa Iguaçu in protecting this species, contributing to the science-based knowledge and understanding of the behavior of araucaria in different successional stages, and establishing future strategies for their conservation.
