Probiotics in the prevention and therapy in children in parents’ opinion | Probiotyki w profilaktyce i terapii u dzieci w opinii rodziców

A survey conducted among parents of children up to the age of 6 (most were respond- ents with higher education) showed that over 80% of those surveyed had given probiotics to their children, mainly during antibiotic treatment or diarrhoea. The highest percentage of children had received them for the first time before the age of one year. The vast majority of the parents sur- veyed knew what probiotics are but had difficulty specifying what determines their effectiveness. The most frequently selected response to the question regarding their main source of information about probiotics was ‘doctor or pharmacist’.

Na podstawie badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych wśród rodziców dzieci do lat 6 (większość to respondenci z wyższym wykształceniem) wykazano, że ponad 80% ankietowanych podawało probiotyki swoim dzieciom przede wszystkim w trakcie antybiotykoterapii lub biegunki. Najwięcej dzieci dostało je po raz pierwszy przed ukończeniem pierwszego roku życia. Ankieto- wani rodzice w zdecydowanej większości wiedzieli, czym są probiotyki, ale mieli trudności z określeniem, od czego zależy skuteczność ich działania. Jako główne źródło wiedzy na temat probiotyków najczęściej wybierana była odpowiedź „lekarz lub farmaceuta”.
