Abstract: Free market economy is the only really satisfactory means of equating food supply to the desires ofpeople. The number of people in the world determines the necessary quantity of food; purchasing power determines kindof food demanded within production potentials. The only satisfactory level of food production is where no individuallacks a good diet. Statistics of food production in countries provide a better quantity need guide than diet deficiency statistics. The major factor preventing production of enough food is the lack of effective demand necessary to attract sufficient productive resources to accomplish the task. Slow adoption of necesary technology for increasing production results from insufficient amounts of capital resources. Factors to consider in the economic analysis and solution to food problems include availability, production potentials, costs, effort, international trade, national food policies and future food needs.
