Kahlfraß durch nadelfressende Insekten auf die Käfer-Lebensgemeinschaft (Coleoptera) in Kiefernwäldern des nordostdeutschen Tieflands | Consequences of insecticide applications respectively total needle loss by phytophagous caterpillars on beetle biozoenosis (Coleoptera) in pine forests

Das Wissen über die Auswirkungen von Störungen in Wäldern gewinnt angesichts des Klimawandels, des Insektensterbens und der potenziellen Betroffenheit aller Waldökosystemleistungen zunehmend an Bedeutung. Dies betrifft nicht nur Entscheidungen für oder gegen Waldschutzmaßnahmen. Anhand langjähriger Datenaufnahmen zu Insektenlebensgemeinschaften in Kiefernforsten wurde am Beispiel der Käfer (Coleoptera) der Einfluss von Insektizidanwendungen bzw. Kahlfraß im Zusammenhang mit Massenvermehrungen von Dendrolimus pini untersucht. Unter Einbeziehung von Witterungsdaten, ökologischen Parametern und Daten einer unbeeinflussten Dauerbeobachtungsfläche wurden mögliche Folgen von Störungen analysiert. Unsere Auswertungen zeigen, dass die natürliche Dynamik der Käferlebensgemeinschaften in Kiefernforsten groß ist und die Folgen der Störungen (Insektizidapplikation bzw. Kahlfraß) überlagert.

The knowledge about the consequences of disturbance in forests becomes increasingly more important in the context of climate change, insect decline and the potential impacts on ecosystem services. This will also affect decisions in forest protection measures, like the use of insecticide applications. Based on long-term insect biocoenosis sampling in pine forests in Brandenburg State, Germany, data analysis were conducted using the beetle community (Coleoptera) as an example. Our aim was to investigate the impact of insecticide application compared to total defoliation in connection with a mass outbreak of Dendrolimus pini. By using weather data, ecological parameters and the insect data of a permanent observation plot the consequences of these disturbances were analyzed in more detail. The study concludes that natural dynamics of beetle biocoenosis in the observed pine forests during the sampling period superimpose the consequences of disturbances (both insecticide application and damages due total needle loss).
