Biochemical characterization and metabolic activities of salt tolerant phosphate solubilizing bacteria isolated from red soil

The aim of the present research is that the ten Salt-tolerant phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB) were isolated from an agricultural field of red soil, and after purification, further studies of biochemical tests and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production were carried out. These PSB isolates were subjected to sodium chloride (NaCl) salt stress with 1.0%, 2.0%, and 3.0% concentrations to screen out the efficiency of organic osmolytes production and solubilizing the tricalcium phosphate on Pikovskaya’s media. However, the PSB 8, PSB 9 and PSB 10 have been efficiently tolerant, IAA production and tricalcium phosphate solubilization under NaCl stress. PSB 10 was recorded to produce the highest proline of 1.635 μgml−1 followed by PSB 8 and PSB 9 at 3.0% NaCl stress, respectively. The maximum amino acid and soluble sugar were recorded by PSB 10, PSB 8 and PSB 9 at 1.0% NaCl stress, respectively. In general, increasing the salinity enhanced the proline production while decreasing the amino acid and soluble sugar production. Therefore, the present study concludes that the PSB 8, PSB9 and PSB 10 isolates may be used as an effective salt-tolerant biofertilizer for crop production under red soil in the Indo-Gangetic region of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
