Objective: To carry out the mapping of the most common mineral deficiencies of cattle in tropical regions of Mexico.Design/methodology/approach: The search for scientific publications on tropical cattle in different scientific and academic databases was carried out. Results: The tropical zones of Mexico present the problem of forages low in protein and minerals. The climatic conditions influence the content of minerals in the soil, plants and animals. Low contents of Ca, P, Zn, Se, I and Cu are reported.Limitations of the study/implications: The presence of some deficiency diseases is reflected by the low production in milk and meat, there are negative effects on fertility, abortions, low semen quality, retention of placenta and dystrophic births.Findings/conclusions: Minerals lacking in cattle should be supplemented, in order to improve productive efficiency. Avoid high-mineral diets to prevent polluting effects on the environment.
