In this study, the compressive safety stresses of the roof trusses were determined depending on the different joining angles (90° at the rafter, 90° at the base and bisector) at the connection points of the rafter and base elements used in traditional wooden roof systems and the different fastening materials (nails, screws and bolts) used to fix these connection points. In this study, the compressive safety stresses of roof trusses made of cedar (Cedrus libani A.Rich.) wood with air dry humidity value of 14%, density value of 0.539 g/cm3, bending strength of 95.37 N/mm2, modulus of elasticity in bending value of 10793,53 N/mm2 and dynamic bending strength value of 16.142 kJ/m2 were determined. The highest compressive safety stress value determined at the connection points of the elements in the roof truss made of cedar (Cedrus libani A.Rich.) wood was found to be 366.77 N/mm² depending on the bolt connection material and the 90° angle applied on the rafter. The lowest compressive safety stress value was determined as 38.93 N/mm² depending on the 90° angle applied to the nail fastener and rafter. In addition, it was determined that there was no statistically significant difference between the 90° joint angles applied at the rafter or base. According to the results obtained, in roof systems with both large spans and high load-bearing potential; 90° joint angles at the rafter or base are insignificant, but it is recommended to use bolt fasteners as fasteners. Another aspect of this study is that the experimental procedures applied to determine the compressive safety stress in the roof truss were also applied with the finite element method (FEM). According to this method, it was found that shear stresses were higher in screw connected rafter and base joints.
