SIMPCCe: a tool for the analysis of reservoir inflows under climate change scenarios | SIMPCCe: una herramienta para el análisis de aportaciones a embalses ante escenarios de cambio climático

English. Climate change and global warming will alter precipitation and temperature patterns, significantly impacting the water cycle. These changes may reduce water inflows to reservoirs, affecting their operational efficiency and their ability to meet associated demands. Conducting climate studies is essential to understanding the evolution of water resources and developing effective adaptive measures. In Spain, recent studies have emphasized the need for accessible and reliable information to address these challenges. To meet this demand, we developed SIMPCCe, an open-source application freely available on GitHub. SIMPCCe is an artificial intelligence-based tool designed to model the hydrological balance of watersheds in Spain under various climate change scenarios. It uses official data on variables such as precipitation, temperature, and historical inflows to estimate water availability in reservoirs under different future climatic contexts. This technological innovation represents a significant step forward in adaptive water resource planning and management, promoting sustainability and enhancing resilience to the impacts of climate change.

Esto puede reducir las aportaciones a embalses, afectando su funcionamiento y las demandas que satisfacen. Es crucial realizar estudios climáticos para entender la evolución del recurso hídrico y proponer medidas adaptativas. En España, estudios recientes resaltan la necesidad de disponer de información accesible. Para intentar satisfacer esta necesidad creamos la herramienta SIMPCCe una aplicación de código abierto, gratuitamente disponible en Github. SIMPCCe es una herramienta basada en inteligencia artificial diseñada para modelar el balance hídrico de cuencas en España bajo escenarios de cambio climático. Utiliza datos oficiales de variables como precipitación, temperatura y aportaciones históricas para estimar el agua disponible en los embalses en distintos contextos climáticos futuros. Este avance tecnológico es clave para la planificación y gestión adaptativa de los recursos hídricos, promoviendo la sostenibilidad y fortaleciendo la resiliencia frente a los efectos del cambio climático.
