Intra-sub-regional cooperation and trade in East Africa in the field of agriculture

This study have been carried out jointly by FAO and the Economic Commission for Africa under phase I project number 39, "Intra-regional Co-operation and Trade in the Field of Agriculture" of the program of work of the ECA/FAO joint agriculture division for 1969/71 projected to 1973. It was recognized that the bulk of the work on this project should be carried out directly in the countries concerned by teams of specialists in close co-operation with the governments. It was realized, however, that the field investigations and program and project formulation based thereon should be preceded by phase I preliminary economic intelligence studies. These studies under phase I should serve for the identification of areas of concern, priorities of needs within these areas, and suggesting the terms of reference or the subsequent field investigations. It was also considered essential that the outcome of these studies under phase I, particularly the out Line for the follow-up, should be discussed with the governments concerned.
