Comparison between the pipette and bouyoucos methods and their relation with water retention in eight soils of the andean plateau, Parinacota Province, Chile | COMPARACIÓN ENTRE LOS MÉTODOS DE LA PIPETA Y BOUYOUCOS Y SU RELACIÓN CON LA RETENCIÓN DE AGUA EN OCHO SUELOS DE LA ZONA ALTIPLÁNICA DE LA PROVINCIA DE PARINACOTA, CHILE

English. The purpose of this research was to compare two methods, the pipette and Bouyoucos, to quantify the distribution and particle size in soils of cold arid regions. Eight soils (29 samples) from de Andean Plateau, Parinacota Province, Chile, were sampled. With the results, a regression analysis was carried out and the corresponding scatter graph obtained. The results indicated that the organic carbon percentage and the salinity content had little influence, mainly due to the low content of both variables. Instead, Al ox + 1/2 Fe ox , that constitute one of the parameters that represent the degree of evolution of volcanic glasses towards short range ordering minerals, had an effect on the R 2 due to the incomplete dispersion of the Bouyoucos method.

Spanish; Castilian. El objetivo de esta investigación fue comparar dos métodos, de la pipeta y Bouyoucos, para cuantificar la distribución y tamaño de partículas en suelos de regiones áridas frías. Para ello se muestrearon ocho suelos (29 muestras) del altiplano, en la Provincia de Parinacota. Con los resultados se efectuó un análisis de regresión lineal, se obtuvo la ecuación de la recta y el gráfico de dispersión correspondiente. Los resultados señalan que el contenido de carbono orgánico y el contenido salino tienen escasa influencia, principalmente a causa de los bajos contenidos de ambas variables. En cambio, Al ox + 1/2Fe ox que constituye uno de los parámetros que representa el grado de evolución de los vidrios volcánicos hacia minerales de ordenamiento de corto rango, sí produjo una diferencia en los R 2 , a causa de la dispersión incompleta que se produce por el método de Bouyoucos.
