Estrategias para mejorar el sueño del recién nacido en las unidades neonatales, una revisión sistemática de la literatura | Strategies to improve newborn sleep in neonatal units, a systematic review of the literature

El sueño desempeña un papel esencial en el crecimiento y desarrollo integral del recién nacido. Su privación puede desencadenar múltiples efectos adversos sobre la salud y el neurodesarrollo. En este contexto, el entorno de las Unidades de Cuidado Intensivo Neonatal (UCIN) se configura, con frecuencia, como un ambiente cambiante y desfavorable para la preservación del sueño neonatal. Objetivo: Identificar estrategias efectivas para regular el sueño del recién nacido en las unidades neonatales a través de la elaboración de una revisión sistemática de la literatura. Metodología: Se llevará a cabo una revisión sistemática de la literatura a través de bases de datos científicas, utilizando recursos electrónicos como bibliotecas virtuales, motores de búsqueda y bases de datos como PubMed, Pediatrics, biblioteca virtual en salud Enfermería. Para el planteamiento de la pregunta de investigación, descritas en la literatura entre 2019 y 2024, Para la búsqueda de los artículos, se empleará el lenguaje controlado de los tesauros, con términos MeSH y descriptores en Ciencias de la Salud DeCS. Se utilizarán operadores booleanos, que refinaron la búsqueda como AND y OR. Una vez definidos los criterios de elegibilidad, se construirán ecuaciones de búsqueda. Inicialmente, se enfocarán en el ambiente general de la UCIN “(neonatal intensive care unit) AND (environment)” y luego se adaptarán para los elementos específicos: “((Intensive Care Units, Neonatal) AND (Infant, Newborn) AND (Rest and neurodevelopment))”, “((Intensive Care Units, Neonatal) AND (sleep cycle) AND (Dream OR Dream OR Rest))”, ((Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) AND (Newborn) AND (noise))” y “(neonatal intensive care) AND (neurodevelopment)”. Definido como limitadores artículos publicados en los últimos 5 años (hasta diciembre del 2024), disponibles en español, portugués o inglés y en texto completo. Resultados: Se obtuvieron registros, y la muestra final incluyó estudios que respondieron al objetivo de la revisión sobre la base de los criterios de inclusión definidos. Las estrategias promotoras del sueño identificadas remiten a la gestión del ambiente en la UCIN, concentración de los cuidados de enfermería respetando el ciclo de sueño / vigilia de los recién nacidos, manejo de la temperatura, posicionamiento adecuado, contención, succión no nutritiva, madre canguro, mínima manipulación estímulos auditivos tranquilos, barreras de contención y educación familiar.

Objective: To identify effective strategies to regulate newborn sleep-in neonatal units through a systematic review of the literature. Methodology: A systematic review of the literature will be carried out through scientific databases, using electronic resources such as virtual libraries, search engines and databases such as PubMed, Pediatrics, virtual library in health Nursing. For the approach of the research question, described in the literature between 2019 and 2024, For the search of articles, the controlled language of thesauri will be used, with MeSH terms and descriptors in DeCS Health Sciences. Boolean operators will be used, which refined the search as AND and OR. Once the eligibility criteria have been defined, search equations will be constructed. Initially, they will focus on the general NICU environment “(neonatal intensive care unit) AND (environment)” and then will be adapted for the specific elements: “((Intensive Care Units, Neonatal) AND (Infant, Newborn) AND (Rest and neurodevelopment))“, ‘((Intensive Care Units, Neonatal) AND (sleep cycle) AND (Dream OR Dream OR Rest))’, ((Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) AND (Newborn) AND (noise))” and “(neonatal intensive care) AND (neurodevelopment)”. Defined as limiting articles published in the last 5 years (until December 2024), available in Spanish, Portuguese or English and in full text. Results: 44 records were obtained, and the final sample included 9 studies that met the objective of the review based on the defined inclusion criteria. The sleep promoting strategies identified refer to the management of the NICU environment, concentration of nursing care respecting the sleep/wake cycle of the newborns, temperature management, adequate positioning, restraint, non-nutritive sucking, kangaroo mother, minimal manipulation, quiet auditory stimuli, restraint barriers and family education.
